Ten Years of Terrain Gallery Show

  • Washington Cracker Building 304 West Pacific Avenue Spokane, WA, 99201 United States (map)

Terrain began in 2008 as a one-night-only art party built around a simple question:

Dozens of artists were leaving Spokane because they felt there was no creative community — why couldn’t we get those people together and start building community here?

We wanted to include everyone, and so we defined “art” as expansively as possible. Classically trained painters and sculptors would show alongside graffiti artists. Pop bands, hip-hop artists, and singer-songwriters would share a stage. Poets, breakdancers, and comedians would be celebrated under the same roof.

Hours into that first event — as over 1,500 people filed through the door — we knew the experiment was working.

Terrain has grown and changed significantly since 2008. From social experiment to social movement, we are now a non-profit dedicated to building community and economic opportunity for artists across the Inland Northwest.

As we approach our 10th anniversary and reflect upon the idea that started it all, we wanted to pay homage to some of the most memorable moments of the past, while keeping an eye towards the future.

The show is made up of pieces that have appeared in Terrain events in the past 10 years.
